On the forest floor there is a rock. Flowers grow over it, and bugs flee from your hands as you lift it.

On the edge of a tide pool there is a rock. Anemones latch themselves to it and sway with the waves while crabs scuttle between them.

Deep in the earth there is a rock. The long mineralized bones of a longer dead fish are trapped in it, waiting to be exposed.

In a garden there is a rock. Beneath it snakes hide from chickens, and snails make their homes.

In a pond there is a rock. Fish dart away as you walk towards it, and frogs plop gently into the water.

On a sunburnt hill, bare of grass, there are many rocks. You pick one up, it is the round stem of a fossilized sea lily. You put it in your pocket, then walk home.
